Greenhouse Accessories & Helpers

Expansion Tanks:
Hot water expands when it is warmed. This extra water needs someplace to go. That’s where expansion tanks come in. We offer expansion tanks from the smallest 15 gallon bladder type on through “expansion plants” that handle pressure management on even the largest commercial greenhouse heating systems.

Thermometers:
It’s important to know the performance of your greenhouse heating system is as specified. One of the main indicators of system performance is comparing supply and return temperatures. TrueLeaf’s in-line thermometers are available with or without a dry well and provide an excellent value in a low-cost industrial thermometer.

Zone Valves:
These valves provide zone control by starting and stopping flow based on a call from a thermostat or climate computer.

They are 1” female thread brass body, 2-way units. Two wires are provided for 24 volt power to open the valve, which closes with a spring-loaded return. Two more wires are present which are connected to the “end-switch” which is a set of contacts that are completed when the valve is actuated to the open position. These are usually wired to signal a pump or boiler to turn on.

The 24 volt “pop-top” motor is designed for easy removal and replacement without cutting into or draining the system.

Pumps:
TrueLeaf is expert at the sizing and application of pumps of all sizes and types. We stock complete units and parts at two locations in North America. Greenhouse supply brands we carry include Bell & Gossett, Taco, and Grundfos.

Air Purgers:
Install an air purger to remove entrained air from a heating system. They work by momentarily slowing the velocity of the water and separating the bubbles from the water. After being separated, the bubbles find their way out of the greenhouse system through an automatic air vent. We offer several styles, each suited to a unique need.

Air Vents:
We offer both automatic and manual air vents. Automatic units will allow bubbles to pass whenever the internal float mechanism drops. “T-handle” and “coin” vents are used at system high points and used to get a greenhouse heat system bled for initial start-up.

Fill Valves:
Most greenhouse hot water heating systems are closed loops. But, if there are leaks in the system, the departed water must be made up through a pressure regulating fill valve. Ours come factory set to regulate the system at 12 PSI, which is a standard pressure to operate a heating system for greenhouses under 30 feet tall.

Insert Fittings:
How many times have you needed to join PVC to metal piping and ended up with a leak, no matter how much thread sealant you install? Our insert fittings solve this problem once and for all. These hard-to-find fittings are used to adapt PVC piping to metal piping with a leak-free connection. They are injection molded with integral brass female threads. Available in common sizes from žî through 2î.

Manual Shutoff Valves:
Our greenhouse supplies include all sorts of valves for isolating, shutting off, and metering flow from full port brass ball valves through flanged butterfly valves through PVCball valves. Just call us for help, we have everything you need in stock.

Pressure Gauges:
Install quality pressure gauges on your greenhouse heating system to check the static (resting, cool) pressure and compare it to the operating (active, warm) pressure. Install them (with shut-off petcock valves) on the inlet and outlet of system pumps to verify their operation. We stock spring-damped basic gauges and liquid-filled gauges and 'compound' gauges that will read negative pressures as well as positive.

Balancing Valves:
These valves are used to strategically balance a water flow system to ensure that the rated flow necessary for each area is delivered. TrueLeaf locates these valves near “zone drops” and mixing groups to provide a “static balance” for greenhouse heating systems. Our valves offer features like a full 720 degrees of adjustment, a shut-off feature, and a memory-lock device so you never lose your setting.

Balancing Valve Meter Rental Program:
We will provide a differential meter on a rental basis for the balancing process (usually it takes 3 round trips) so you can get your greenhouse system set up just right. The meter is shipped to you with all instructions for use included— but if you get confused, don’t hesitate to call us at 800-438-4328, we’re here to help!

Mixing Valves:
Mixing valves come in 3-way and 4-way configurations. They are available in mechanical versions that you “set and forget” and with electronic actuators that can be controlled by climate computers or stand-alone controls. The benefit of a valve that is electronically controlled is that you can vary the water temperature going to a zone to maximize efficiency and smoothly deliver the exact heat needed at any time.

Water Treatment Systems:
We provide water treatment systems for closed loop systems to optimize performance and longevity. For many systems, it’s a requirement to balance the pH and inhibit any potential corrosion. For other systems it’s simply an enhancement that reduces maintenance and adds life to pumps and other components. We provide a complete service, to allow you to take care of your own system water. We’ll test your fill water sample, provide the proper compound to use, provide the means to get the treatment into your system like a by-pass feeder, and set you up with the right testing kit to check concentration at regularly scheduled intervals.

Piping Packages:
When we sell you a greenhouse heating system, our goal is to control all the variables in the process of installation. One of the biggest areas where frustration can occur is in acquiring the piping materials. We offer full piping packages including all fittings, valves, pipe supports and hangers. On steel piping systems we even provide the proper greenhouse-specific pipe paint and the curved rollers to put it on! Our piping packages are matched to your system specifications and computer-generated drawings so everything goes together as it should.

Pipe Supports:
Supporting pipes in greenhouses is best done using products specifically designed for the purpose. TrueLeaf provides a wide array of pipe support systems made expressly for greenhouses. Many of our components are imported from Holland, and include special brackets, “ring” hangers that allow pipes to move with expansion and contraction, and all associated clamps and fasteners. Most are hot-dipped in thick corrosion-resistant galvanization. Don’t waste time with non-industry pipe supports that don’t attach properly to the greenhouse or rust and fail prematurely.

Variable Height Support Systems:
Crop level greenhouse heating systems can be much more effective if they actually track the crop as it grows. Many cut flower growers use these systems to get the heating system closer to the optimum proximity for best growth and, at the end of the crop cycle, use the system to move the greenhouse heating system up out of the way to make room for tilling and replanting. These systems are a combination of drive motors, cables, pulleys, and TrueLeaf ingenuity.

Insulation:
From piping insulation for heating mains to rigid insulation materials for the perimeter around heated floors to insulation materials you place under concrete slabs before you pour— TrueLeaf has the solutions at hand for keeping the heat in. Remember, insulation is one of the best investments you can make, because a one-time cost can provide efficiency and utility savings for years. We’ll either ship it to you for self-installation or one of our installation specialists will come do the work too!

Soil Thermometers:
Soil media temperature is one of the most important regulators of plant metabolism. Know and track the soil temperature in your production areas with one or more of the thermometers in our complete selection of products for this very important job.

Pipe Coating:
Steel heating pipes and mains look better and last longer if painted bright white. They also help reflect valuable light to your crops. Problem is that many paint products for painting metal are toxic to plants when applied in their proximity. TrueLeaf imports special greenhouse safe paints from Europe. We sell it complete with special curved rollers designed for painting pipes. These coatings will enhance the looks of your new greenhouse heating system, add life to it, and improve your environment!

Infra-Red Thermometers:
These point-and-shoot thermometers give you a laser pointer to help pin point the surface where you need to know the temperature. They are extremely handy for trouble-shooting malfunctioning greenhouse heating systems as well as checking the function of other systems around the greenhouse. Handy and economical, we suggest that every greenhouse should have one in their toolbox.

Data-Recorders:
Spot-checking temperature or pressure conditions does not tell the whole story that might better be explained by seeing a profile created over time. We offer several data recording devices that can assist you. Practical applications that we’ve had recently include tracking media temperature in tender crops and recording the variable pressures in a troublesome natural gas main.

Pipe Labeling Products:
A great greenhouse heating installation is only as good as the finishing touches. Make your system look as professional as possible and help your self with future maintenance and troubleshooting by applying these labeling and direction stickers to your system. We offer a full selection including: HEATING SUPPLY, HEATING RETURN, GAS, CITY WATER, etc.

Flow Meters:
From digital output meters that can hook to the climate computer to visually indicating units, flow meters give you a reference to know exactly what your flow rates are in a heating or irrigation pipe. We use them for a number of applications, including flow verification in greenhouse heating systems and fertirrigation injection systems.

Service Tools:
We firmly believe that preventative maintenance must be done to keep greenhouse heating systems reliable. This means training yourself or your staff to do the work, and having the proper tools and equipment. Being able to maintain your own boilers will save you tremendous time and frustration. We offer two versions of our boiler service kit, and all the individual tools separately.

Venting Materials for Heaters and Boilers:
We stock a wide variety of venting products for heating appliances like boilers and unit heaters. The most common material used in the greenhouse industry is UL listed “type B” venting. This is a double-wall insulating vent material with an inner liner of aluminum and a galvanized sheet metal outer surface. It’s suitable for all negative draft (not power-vented) equipment. It is designed to insulate the products of combustion from cooling off too rapidly— warmer flue products tend to move up the pipe more readily.

We also offer actuated louvers for bringing fresh air into the room or space where the equipment resides. Pretty much whatever the need is, we can handle the engineering, application, and supply when it comes to venting systems.

Training and On-Site Technical Support:
We offer free, unlimited telephone support to all of our customers but sometimes more intense support or training is required. We offer periodic training seminars at our facility in California. These group classes are free to attendees, you just need to get on the roster and get your self to the location. Besides these free classes, we offer on-site technical support - please call for details. Give us a call anytime to chat about your specific interests and needs.
